Table in database _messages is 194 Mb :(

Im preparing to migrate to 1.6/1.7 and doing tome testing with xampp.

Downloading my database without any compression = 243 mb .....

194 mb is the table messages containing almost 1 million rows...

Can I delete these simply via my database?
Im not sure how its even possible for joomla to keep that many messages ?
Maybe its not joomlas fault, but my Jfusion setup ?

I tried on joomla.org, but nobody cared to reply, could you have a look at your table in the database to check its size....

Comes if you post "jos _ messages" (no space) very odd..

I think its joomla that some how that wont allow it ...
