Sneak peak at the next major Discussion Bot release

Posted by Alan in Untagged

Alan

I've been doing a major revamp of the discussion bot. I'm quite excited about this release which will be with JFusion 2.0. So I thought I would write a blog about it with a sneak peak into the new features and design.

Test Mode

Okay so we've all been there. We've had to clean up the forums after playing around with the discussion bot trying to get it to work the way want. Well no more of those unwanted threads! There is now a test mode that will simply give you input as to what would happen if you went live.

Thread will not be created:

Thread will be created:

Easier Configuration for Auto Mode

You no longer have to go back and forth figuring out what the ids of your sections and categories are. There will be a GUI which will allow easy configuration. Just select the section or category and the forum and click Add. Simple as that!

Completely Revamped Frontend

The display of the discussion area has been completely revamped adding MarkItUp for an editor and new Captcha options (added in 1.2.0).

Hello Ajaxification!

Posts can now be submitted by Ajax (option to disable in the backend). No longer do we have to wait for the page to refresh. Simply write the post, click Submit, and BAM there it is!

New Template System

Don't like the design? Well then change it! The discussion bot will work off a template system. It allows you to have complete control over what the discussion area looks like including html, css, etc. You can even add the discussion bot template files into Joomla's frontend template html directory so that your custom template is not lost when installing/uninstalling the discussion bot!

Manually Initialize or Uninitialize the Discussion

Need an exception to what is generated in auto mode or an easy way to initialize a discussion for an article in manual mode?  No problem!  You will be able to manually initialize (publish) or uninitialize (unpublish) discussions right from the article in the frontend (backend to come soon with the addition of an editor plugin).

Initialize a discussion:

Uninitialize a discussion:

Feedback Please

Please give me your feedback on the above along with your ideas for the next major release of the discussion bot!

Alan you are an absolute legend and always amaze me everytime you tackle a new feature. The new discussion bot looks stunning with all the features you could ask for and even using AJAX.

Well done, Marius

I think the new look is stunning, and using AJAX and making us able to change the design is even better! Keep up the great work Alan! smilies/wink.gif

Awesome stuff Alan!
We're mainly using Wordpress for blogging stuff atm, but have plans to use J! for longer, more in depth/complicated articles in the future so this is a HIGHLY appreciated feature given that our members are pretty much all on the vBulletin/forum side of the site smilies/wink.gif.

Instead of BBCode having some WYSIWYG editor would be amazing smilies/wink.gif.

The discussion bot is already amazing code to say the least that it works with so many different systems but this preview will vastly improve it. The removal of ID matching is great, its not hard for me to use IDs but its certainly going to be a nice change. However, the ajax and the template system is what I'm excited for...can't wait!

Hi Alan,

this looking awesome!

Have you seen the Vbulletine cross-publishing "Promote to Article" functionality? http://www.vbulletin.com/forum...the-Forums

Maybe some ideas to pick up?
