SMF community under siege

Joomla has been working very hard as a community to work together and engage with each other to make Joomla a better product. Open Source Matters (OSM) the not for profit organisation that manages Joomla, has also been making a lot of progress in beng more transparent and asking for community involvement. You can read more about this on the following website:

http://www.alltogetherasawhole.org/

An example of how not to manage a community can be found at SMF (a free fo [...]

Community Builder Plugin Released

I've released a Community Builder plugin that will display a JFusion tab on a CB user's profile.

It can display a user's avatar, profile link, number off pm's (only to the user logged in on his/her own profile page), and the user's activity from phpBB, vB, or SMF.

It requires at least JFusion 1.2.4. Note that this plugin does not sync information in any way.

You can download it via our Downloads link.

Feel free to post question [...]

100+ unique threads last week

It is a "flurry" of activity at jfusion at the moment and there the interest in jfusion is increasing every week. Last week we had a 100 unique threads on the jfusion.org forum. We made sure everybody received a reply resulting in hundreds of single posts last week. We also set the record for most users online recently. A total of 74 users where online at the same time on Thursday Jan 21 2010, which just shows how jfusion is growing as a communi [...]

I've been doing a major revamp of the discussion bot. I'm quite excited about this release which will be with JFusion 2.0. So I thought I would write a blog about it with a sneak peak into the new features and design.

Test Mode

Okay so we've all been there. We've had to clean up the forums after playing around with the discussion bot trying to get it to work the way want. Well no more of those unwanted threads! There is now a test mode that will simply give you input [...]

JFusion 1.2.0 Released

I am extremely proud to announce that JFusion 1.2.0 has been released after a huge effort of the JFusion Development Team. It has been a little while after JFusion 1.1.3 was released 3 months ago, with 300+ commits of code to our SVN. Since a very large amount of work was done, this release is called 1.2.0 (instead of 1.1.4), as many features have been added in this release in addition to bug fixes. We ask people to upgrade their jfusion installs through the JFusion updater in the component, to [...]

With great pleasure I would like to announce that we have a new programmer join the JFusion development team that will work on Joomla-Elgg integration. He is very experienced with Joomla development and already has got a working JFusion Elgg plugin that has user sync / dual login capabilities. Full frameless visual integration has already been shown to work as well (using Morten's universal frameless model) and John-Paul will be working to bring full Elgg integration to Joomla.

Its gr [...]

The roller coaster ride of exciting new JFusion features never stops.

Finally, I have now published a new section on the website, called 'get involved'. You might have seen similar pages with other open source projects before, and that is because they aim to educate users on one of the most important factors of open source development: How you, like anyone else, can take an active part in the project you've come to love, and do your fair share to speed things up.

Now, about what you might be missing...

First off, I would like there to be more articl [...]

New Versioning mechanism and Installer

After a lot of internal discussion within the team (primarily the developers), we have come up with a new versioning mechanism. The emphasis is now on reaching a stable release as soon as possible.
From now on we shall have a regular version cycle consisting of per defined feature releases and subsequent bug fix releases. The versions will continue to contain three digits as they have till date but will signify both features releases and bug fix ones easily. Let's take the example of version [...]

JFusion 1.1.3 Released

Dear JFusion Users,
I am extremely proud to announce the release of JFusion 1.1.3 which has been made possible by an enourmous effort by the JFusion developers and the JFusion community providing feedback. Once again we prove that JFusion is the best supported and most developed Joomla bridge or integration software available.

Since we make huge improvements every 2 weeks, we decided to switch to a Joomla like numbering system as the "patch levels" do not indicate the many new [...]

New opportunities for simple contributions are springing up every day. Today I would like to bring two new possibilities to your attention.
Some days back, Joomlashack launched a voting contest, asking "what are your favorite Joomla! extensions?" It is unsure exactly when they plan to end this contest as there seems to have been a slight postponement. Important part being: There's still time, so go vote! Regardless of whether we make it into the top 10 or not, being high up [...]

I doubt it is a secret anymore as we have had the link on the top menu for a few days now. The one that says 'Translate'. So what does it do? Simply put it helps you convert the English Language Strings of the JFusion Component into your own language thereby creating a new language pack! :)
People had been pounding us with requests to create language packs. We did some research and realized how daunting a task it was if we were going to manage this via forums as we had been till date(My countr [...]
