Server move due in the next 24 hours

Posted by Imran Ali in Website InfrastructureServerRelease1.1.2 Beta

Imran Ali

This is a quick FYI. Alan and I started to move stuff for the website to the new server late last night India time. We have made some great progress and plan to make the DNS switch once we have ironed out the last few issues that we are currently facing.

A DNS switch theoretically takes anywhere between 24-72 hours to show up as the DNS across the world refresh one by one. During this period we will be locking down the website on the old server while keeping it open on the new one. This shall help you know if the switch has been made or not.

We have decided to move over ASAP because of the imminent 1.1.2 release which can see a sudden rise in the traffic on this website. Plus our recent tests with the moving of the code website have also been a grand success.

How to setup a Test System?

Posted by Henk Wevers in PeopleDocumentationDevelopment1.1.2 Beta

Henk Wevers

Although I describe the setup and testing of a local testsystem on windows, except for installing XAMPP, all steps are valid for a testsetup on a remote (shared) server or a unix standalone test server.

Of course, being a professional webmaster, you want a testserver don't you?

If you don't want to install magento and don't want to read my ramblings about magento setup skip to THE FOLLOWING IS GOOD ADVICE FOR ANY (NEW) INSTALLATION WITH JFUSION! below.

Installing Magento 1.2.1.1 locally under XAMPP

I have been struggling for a long time now to install Magento 1.2x under XAMPP after an automatic update from Magento 1.1x to 1.2x crashed my complete testserver setup under XAMPP 1.6.8.

So I decided to install the new XAMPP 1.7 and the lastest Mgento 1.2 from fresh. Oh boy, I never had to deal with a mess like this. The XAMPP install went without any problems. My test setup consisting of Joomla, Moodle and Kayako installed without problems but Magento refused to install. You get a lot of MySQL errors and Magento refuses to install.

Code Code and more Code........

Been a while now since you heard something from us, huh?! Yeah we do converse on the forums but that doesn't get you what you exactly want. A direct reply on when 1.1.2 is coming. :)

So what have we been upto? Code, code and more code. The same goes for features as well! When 1.1.1 was released i.e. Patch 1 on January 15, the SVN was around revision #440. As i write this blog entry it is at #601. So you know how much has been contributed to the project over the 45 days since the last release.

A lot is going on behind the scenes as we speak. The dokuwiki and Gallery 2 plugins have been completed and committed by Morten and Christoph respectively. Christoph has also worked on Sitemap support for different JFusion Plugins. After the completion of the dokuwiki plugin and finding himself without work(This is no joke. He really was desperate to code), Morten decided to take on what he was here for in the first place. He has taken the SMF plugin to new heights thereby clearing the long list of to-dos for it as well.

Alan has been working on perfecting his Search and Discuss Bot plugins. This is a really interesting development for JFusion. I have tried this and it honestly rocks! Besides he has also been taking great care of the vB plugin. If you guys remember the promise we made, vB will get frameless in 1.1.2 Beta. :D

Marius has been having some great fun with his two babies i.e. JFusion and Amalia. And he is doing a great job at both. He is currently fighting frameless phpBB bugs after having committed a lot of changes to the JFusion core over the past few days. Amalia has eaten into his sleep but he refuses to budge.

Henk has been real busy but has still found time for Magento and Moodle users here at JFusion. Plus he has prefected the cURL method which is so important for JFusion's dual login magic.

So when is it coming? You guys know that we hate to give out ETAs(puts that extra pressure on us that we don't want). But it is coming very soon. A rough estimate would be within 2-3 weeks from now if all goes well. Watch this space for more info on a release date.

In addition to this I shall blog soon about the traffic that we see here on JFusion.org. Shall be a really cool entry I am sure.
